Isaiah 7 and the Promise of Emmanuel

Watch the video version on YouTube: https://youtu.be/269H20T9o2U

In this episode, Jeff and Craig walk through Isaiah 7, focusing on the promise of Emmanuel and its meaning in context. They discuss King Ahaz, fear versus faith, God’s faithfulness despite human unfaithfulness, and how Isaiah 7 points forward to Christ. The conversation traces the promise of the Messiah from Genesis through Isaiah and into the New Testament, showing how God keeps his covenant promises across redemptive history.

Scripture mentioned:

Isaiah 7:9-16 - https://www.blueletterbible.org/esv/isa/7/9-16/s_686

And the head of Ephraim is Samaria,

and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah.

If you are not firm in faith,

you will not be firm at all.’”

Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz:

“Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be

deep as Sheol or high as heaven.”

And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also?

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good.

For before the boy knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be deserted.

Genesis 3:15 - https://www.blueletterbible.org/esv/gen/3/15/s_3015

I will put enmity between you and the woman,

and between your offspring and her offspring;

he shall bruise your head,

and you shall bruise his heel.”

Daniel 7:13-14 - https://www.blueletterbible.org/esv/dan/7/14/s_857014

“I saw in the night visions,

and behold, with the clouds of heaven

there came one like a son of man,

and he came to the Ancient of Days

and was presented before him.

And to him was given dominion

and glory and a kingdom,

that all peoples, nations, and languages

should serve him;

his dominion is an everlasting dominion,

which shall not pass away,

and his kingdom one

that shall not be destroyed.

Revelation 7:9-12 - https://www.blueletterbible.org/esv/rev/7/9/s_1174009

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
